Distance Learning T4WK9

Good morning Room 3
We finally made it! Last week of school 2021! It hasn't been the best of years due to the longest ever Lockdown and then many of you who did not return to school. Well done on you for making it this far with the Learning packs and also the Online work. I saw some really good work from those that worked online and even completed the science experiments. This week is chill week so don't stress on any school work to do. If you do get bored there is extra work on google sites or on google classroom to do. But anyway here is the timetable for this week. I will still be meeting up with you for KAHOOT to chat and catch up and keep you updated. Don't forget Year 6's to jump online for the Virtual Year 6 graduation assembly on Tuesday at 10:00am. Details are attached.
See you Monday.

Lockdown Work Term 3

Today science and technology has come to pervade every aspect of our lives. Computers, television and radio have almost replaced the newspaper and letters that once dominated our lives. Accordingly, the issue about whether the ability to read and write is more important today may attract our attention. It is clear that classified views have converged into two: some think reading and writing ability is more important today than in the past, while others deny its importance.

As I see it, I agree with the former view without any hesitation and my choice is based on a careful consideration of the following reasons. The main reason which may win most people's support is that if one lacks the reading and writing ability, one would be considered as illiterate who has been deprived of the most basic right of human beings in the 21st century. It will be hard for us to imagine how somebody who can't read and write communicates with other people. A case in point is that one of my neighbors who is an old man and cannot read and write may only talk with others face to face. As for making friends by email and searching for information in the newspaper, it is absolutely impossible.

The second reason I would like to point out is that people today who cannot read and write cannot even make a living. Good jobs are difficult to find because of economic depression. Nearly all the jobs require people who can read and write very well. Even if one just plans to be a driver, he must read the road sign and know where he is and where he will go. Furthermore, the ability to read and write could bring us lots of advantages. Suppose that people who have tired out with a hard week's sweat and effort may get lots of benefits and relief from reading a short novel and broaden their horizons by appreciating a nice poem. Many friends around me believe reading and writing are some effective ways to relax themselves. People today, especially those children, may find it easier for them to manipulate the mouse of the computer than to write things down by hand.

Watching TV instead of reading may still occupy someone's most leisure time. Yet if all the factors I discussed above are contemplated and we are to minimize the losses and maximize the gains, it will not be hard for us to realize that the ability to read and write is more important today than in the past.

TERM 4 2021 NOTICE

 Talofa Parents/Caregivers

I hope this email finds you and your family in good health.

You may all be aware that Term 4 begins tomorrow and again JBS is only open for students whose parents are essential workers and need for their children to attend school.  Therefore the Lockdown rules for Level 3 still apply until further notice. We know as much as you do with regard to any COVID updates and the Ministry of Education informs all school principals if there are any changes.  Therefore Distance Learning will continue as usual.

The Learning for those with access to a device will be online as of 9am. This can be found on Google Sites, Google Classroom and Blogger for Room 3 students. Ministry of Education packs were distributed at the end of Term 3 and I do believe there was quite a bit of work in there for the students. For those who have Learning packs they can continue to complete those tasks.

Our student teacher Emeline Taufalele who is in her last year of University began her last Practicum (training) in February this year and is in the process of completing her last 4 weeks with us. Please be advised that she will be in full control of the distance learning and planning process with my assistance. This will also include our ZOOM meetings with the students in which she will be working with students online in my presence 😀. She has built good relationships with Room 3 students and they have worked with her before.  It would be great to have all Room 3 present in our ZOOM meetings so that they can catch up with their friends and check out what's happening 😀😀

On that note - please do not hesitate to call, text, or email me if you have any queries about your child's learning, or if you have any concerns about your child returning to school, or at home. Whaea Nardi would like to organise a ZOOM meeting with all Team Folau parents, and what time would suit you, she will try to find a suitable time for all. She will also be organising a ZOOM meeting with all Year 6 students and JBS Leaders and again, a suitable time she will try and accommodate. I will mention this online to those in Room 3 who are JBS leaders and Year 6.

Please check our FB page or school website for any updates. For parents in Room 3 who do not have an email, I will be in contact with them by phone or text to keep them in the loop.

Thank you for your time. God Bless

Best regards
Tali

Chess

Chess is an abstract strategy game.  It challenges the mind and thought process in taking down the most prized possession THE KING. What a good start to children's lives to learn and play chess. In 2020 we had one day of knockout rounds until the last 4 were standing to take the places 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. There were lots of tears and dramas but the students who have returned this year have come back stronger. This year we have 24 students and we played our first round in Term 2 knocking out 12 where each player had one game. In term 3 we will knock out 6 they will have 3 games to play. The final 4 will go on to the finals in Term 4 to find our 2021 champion. Great to see girls joining the game.

Let the games begin.....💥💥💥💥

Celebrating Matariki 2021

In the beginning of the year when school commenced for 2021 students were tasked to write down at least 3-5 goals they wanted to achieve in 2021.  Their goals were posted onto their Blogs. As we head into celebrating Matariki from the 19th of June to the 11th of July I felt it best that students revisit their goals, new beginnings and new goals, based on what they have/have not achieved so far.  Some goals remained the same and some changed with different aspirations. Let's get these goals into fruition and start making it happen. 👌👍💣💣

Samoan Language Week Classroom Vibes

To celebrate Samoan Language week we decorated our room with the Samoan Language basics, from greetings, the alphabet, numbers and small chat. We also took photos of what we did during the week and everyone contributed to what we did. If you weren't in the item, you did art. We learnt a lot about Samoa and how the Palm tree has so much use from it. Enjoy the show!👌💣💥💥💥💥
