The theme in 2022 is: Ke Tu'uloa 'a e lea faka-Tonga 'i Aotearoa, which means Sustaining the Tonga Language in Aotearoa.
In 2021 we missed Tongan Language week due to COVID LOCKDOWN and we celebrated online via zoom. It wasn't the same. This year, we have a full class of eager beaver students ready to take on the world! Here's a snippet of our last minute celebrations.

Commonwealth Games 2022

In 2022 the Commonwealth games is being held in Birmingham England. There are no lockdowns at the moment and most country borders are open.  There will be lots of people around the world visiting the games and of course we will be watching our New Zealand athletes on the television. Obviously N.Z time is way ahead of England time so most games will be at night or early in the mornings.

Room 3 is learning about the history of the Commonwealth games and why it exists.

Below is what we used de Bono hats to summarise of what we learned about the Commonwealth history.

Cook Island Language week

‘Ātuitui’ia au ki te Oneone o tōku ‘Ui Tupuna which means, connect me to the soil of my ancestors.

Kia orana it's that time of the year again. In Room 3 we are learning about the History of the Cook Islands that we did not know about. Here's a picture of some of the students in Room 3 wearing our very own hand made Ei - Katu we made last year for Cook Island Language week. Will update with more fun things we do this week.

We learnt about Cook Island History and had our own ideas about re-naming the Cook Islands and discussed whether the Cook Islands should be independent of the British and New Zealand. Here was our work we focused on.

ART
We also made our very own 'Tivaevae' from coloured paper cutting intrical and symmetrical shapes.

This special dish is called a Cook Island Potato Salad otherwise known as 'Minus' not too sure on the correct spelling but I do know that this bowl is always a staple on the table and works well with anything...for me in particular - minus, chicken, chop suey, and cornbeef!! better than a big mac combo! Thank you to the lovely Mrs Setera for providing a bowl of minus for Room 3 that Ms Tali will be the only one allowed to eat it! Goodbye Faafetai lava! Don't care - all mines!

Everybody's favourite dish - Cook Island donuts! We had so much to eat to end our celebrations - Our shared lunch was Pizza's, Fizz - thats right no sugar Fizz, iceblocks, biscuits, /chocolate brownies that Adia made - they were yum!

We even made our very own Cook Island Tivaevae patterns with coloured paper with Aiesha! It looked really awesome. Ms Tali is thinking whether to leave it on the floor or hang it in the cloak bay.

MATARIKI CELEBRATIONS

We celebrated Matariki with a hangi that Whaea Harriet and her husband Sonny provided and it was so delicious. We sang songs with Mr Pou and then ended our day playing games and a Tug of War competition between the Folau classrooms. Room 3 were the final champs for both girls and boys. We did reflect on new beginnings and goals for the coming year. This year New Zealand now celebrates Matariki with a Public Holiday.  Happy Matariki everyone!

Our Inquiry Project Term 2

In term 2 we were filling up our Kete with new learning skills. Two groups worked on building trenches as part of our Inquiry NZ Maori Land Wars. Here is a snippet of the groups putting it together.

Fun Times Silent Ball

Inquiry Art Term 1 2022

We are learning to use 'Paint Art' on Google Suite as part of our Digital Tech learning skills.

Our theme NZ Maori Land Wars made us want to sketch our take on what a Maori warrior/soldier would look like in 2022.  We also threw in British soldiers.  Here are a few of our artworks.

Today is our WAKA race day and Ms Tali was given a rope and decided to bring it to school so we could play good ol' Tug of War. It was a fun day with lots of laughs.
