Health and Physical Education

Everyone loves to swim - who doesn't.  Learning how to swim is an important skill to learn. The earlier you teach children, the better it is for them in the long run, especially when it's free and Summer is just around the corner.  If you forget to bring your swim gear, or you can't swim because of medical issues that's okay in Room 3 πŸ‘Œ  You get to bring your school work along to the pools or a library book to read to pass the time 😁 because that's how we roll.

MOSA Athletics Day Mt Smart Stadium

Fun day for all even though it rained, stormed, it was cold and wet - best combo for an athletic day :)

Book Week - The Ginger Bread Man

Room 3 decided that their Book for the week would be the infamous Ginger Bread Man.  The mission was to decorate our classroom door of our favourite story/book. Given the placement of the doors in our room we decided that the only way we could do justice to our favourite story was to use the outside wall of our classroom. Boom! πŸ’£πŸ’£πŸ’£πŸ’£πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ It was also Pink day and staff, students and anyone interested could dress up in pink and also their favourite character from a book.

Alithea's Speech

In term 3 Team Folau held a speech competition and each class was to put through two of their best students for the final that was held on the 24th of September.  This was part of our Performing Arts plan.  Students had to select one topic from COVID19 - Lockdown - Elections to write and speak about.  Alithea from our class placed 2nd out of 12 finalists.  Not bad from approximately 145 Senior students.  What an achievement.  Here is Alithea's speech - due to privacy reasons we cannot show the actual speech recording.  Well done Alithea!!!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ’£πŸ’£πŸ’£πŸ’£πŸ’£πŸ’£πŸ’£

Senior Sports

Team Folau Sports

In Term 2 the Team Folau teachers decided that for Senior Sports every Friday that everyone will go into their Houses where ALL students at Jean Batten were assigned to a House.  Our first sports competition during Level 2 for two weeks was Basketball, Soccer, Netball and T Ball.  There were 2 categories - Competitive and Fun teams.  The winning teams would receive free pizza and points towards the final tally at the end of the year for the House that is the overall winner.  The winner for these games was Ranginui.  We continued Senior sports after Level 2 and as students were returning back to school the teams became bigger and so therefore we narrowed the games to Soccer and Netball.  Again there were competitive teams and fun teams.  The final was held on the last day of Term 2 and all teams needed to have learnt a chant and have their House banner ready to cheer on their teams.  At the end of the final all the teams gathered in the school hall and had a chant off.  It was full of laughter and amazing chants.  Unfortunately these were not recorded :(
The winner of these games were once again RANGINUI.

Te Whare Tapa Wha - Born to Move

This is an exciting year for our school and the Senior Syndicate.  We are about to embark on this fitness program.  It is the Les Mills Born to Move fitness program for kids and after watching the students on their very first session with the Fitness instructors was tiring enough for Ms Tali 😲 but the students did an awesome job trying to keep up.  Eventually students from Team Folau will lead this and there have been a lot of enthusiasm from the students to become instructors.  Watch this space and see if any of Room 3 students get selected πŸ‘Œ

Students were seen to be having fun and enjoying every minute of it.  The instructors were just non stop.  Ms Ellis was having a great time on the side there and kept up with every dance step the instructors had.  Way to go Ms Ellis - we don't know how you do it.

Te Whare Tapa Wha - Taha Whanau

Taha Whanau Term 2 Week 12

This week we are learning about Taha Whanau and how important Whanau is to us in our classroom, school and at home.  Students looked at, 'what makes them feel' that they are part of a whanau that cares for them and their well being. They learned that sometimes the little things in life that they think doesn't mean anything to them does really play a huge impact on their wellbeing and is part and parcel of being in a Whanau.   The post it in white is what they think it looks like in our classroom, and the post its in purple is what they think it looks like in our school.  πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘€πŸ‘ͺ
